Kansen en problemen rond culturele samenwerking met Rusland
Tegen het licht van de politieke, economische en culturele situatie in Rusland inventariseert Dare2Connect de kansen en problemen rond culturele samenwerking met dit land. Aan bod komen inhoudelijke en financiële aspecten en is er in het bijzonder aandacht voor architectuur, design/beeldende kunst en podiumkunsten, sectoren die in Rusland bijzonder kansrijk lijken.

Rusland is een van de grootste economieën van de wereld. In de afgelopen jaren is in Rusland een klasse van nieuwe rijken ontstaan, die investeert in kunst en cultuur – in binnen en buitenland. Succesvolle Nederlandse voorbeelden hiervan zijn te vinden in De Hermitage Amsterdam en het Groninger Museum. Een snelle analyse van de Buitengaats database van SICA leidt tot de conclusie dat er relatief veel kleinschalige Nederlandse projecten in Rusland plaatsvinden, maar dat er nog veel kansen liggen op het terrein van kennisuitwisseling en co-productie.
Tijdens deze middag analyseren we de situatie en inventariseren we de mogelijkheden. Sjeng Scheijen, voormalig conservator bij het Groninger Museum en nu cultureel attaché in Moskou, onderzoekt de nieuwe culturele infrastructuur in Rusland en de mogelijkheden voor Nederlandse instellingen. Hij zal samen met Thymen Kouwenaar, hoofd pers en culturele zaken in Moskou, de eerste bevindingen toelichten tijdens deze bijeenkomst. Verder vertellen Ernst Veen (Hermitage Amsterdam en De Nieuwe Kerk) en Erick van Egeraat (architect van megaproject Federation Island) over hun ervaringen om in Rusland te werken. Een panel van Russische vakspecialisten belicht de samenwerking met Rusland vanuit Russisch perspectief. Het panel bestaat uit: Irina Korobina (directeur van het Centre of Contemporary Architecture in Moskou), Elena Tupyseva (directeur Dance Agency TsEKh), Joseph Backstein (curator 2007 Moskou Biënnale Contemporary Art) en Petr Bankov (directeur DesignDepot en hoofdredacteur van het designmagazine KaK).

With this meeting, Dare2Connect seeks to analyse the opportunities and difficulties of Cultural collaboration with Russia regarding the political, economical and cultural situation of this influential country. Also, practical matters and matters of financing will be elaborated upon. Special attention will be paid to architecture, design, visual arts and performing arts, as these disciplines in particular appear to be very promising.
Russia is among the most influential economies worldwide. In the last decade, a new class of nouveau riche has emerged that typically focuses on investing in art and culture – in Russia itself as well as abroad. In the Netherlands successful examples illustrating this tendency are found in De Hermitage Amsterdam (Amsterdam) and the Groninger Museum (Groningen). An analysis of the SICA Buitengaats database (in Dutch) leads to the conclusion that many, relatively small scaled, Dutch projects are being executed in Russia already. The data also suggests that there are many opportunities still, in particular for coproduction and the exchange of knowledge.
During this meeting we will analyse the situation and investigate the possibilities. Sjeng Scheijen, former curator at the Groninger Museum, now cultural attaché at the Dutch embassy in Moskow, is researching the contemporary cultural infrastructure in Russia and possibilities for Dutch institutions. Together with Thymen Kouwenaar, head of press and cultural affairs at the embassy, he will be discuss the first results. Ernst Veen (Hermitage Amsterdam) and Erick van Egeraat (architect of the mega structure, Federation Island) will share their experiences on working in Russia. We also welcome four acclaimed professionals from the Russian cultural field to highlight their perspective on the matter: Irina Korobina (director of the Centre of Contemporary Architecture in Moskow), Elena Tupyseva (director Dance Agency TsEKh), Joseph Backstein (curator 2007 Moskow Biennale Contemporary Art) and Peter Bankov (director DesignDepot and chief editor of the design magazine KaK) will reflect on cultural cooperation with Russia during a panel discussion.
