Hedendaags theater in de Gazastrook en op de Westoever
In deze zevende aflevering van Café Mediterranée staat hedendaags theater in Gaza en de Westoever centraal. Uitgangspunt vormt het werk van de theatergroep Theatre Day Productions. De staf is van Amerikaanse, Palestijnse en Nederlandse afkomst en houdt zich bezig met een professionele theateropleiding voor jongeren vanaf 18 jaar. De groep maakt al tien jaar voorstellingen voor kinderen en jongeren.

Sprekers
Oprichters Jackie Lubeck en Jan Willems zijn te gast, samen met een groot aantal acteurs. Onder leiding van Café Mediterranée-moderator Chris Keulemans, spreken zij over de (on)mogelijkheid van theater in de Gazastrook, het enthousiasme van acteurs en publiek en de samenwerking met de Nederlandse theatergroep Het Waterhuis. Verder worden beelden uit een documentaire over de Theatre Day Productions getoond van filmmaker Tinus Kramer.
Onderdeel Slotconferentie Europees Jaar
Deze editie van Café Mediterranée vindt plaats in het kader van de slotconferentie van het Europees Jaar van de Interculturele Dialoog, en kwam tot stand in samenwerking met het Theater Instituut Nederland (TIN). In verband met de bijzondere gelegenheid, wijkt de locatie af van de gebruikelijke thuisbasis Felix Meritis. Deze editie van het Café vindt plaats in de Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. Reservations
The Café Mediterranée meeting of Friday 12 December will highlight contemporary theatre in Gaza and the West bank. Main topic is the work of theatre group Theatre Day Productions, who have been involved in theatre productions for children and teenagers for ten years now. The group, which is run by American, Palestinian and Dutch theatre makers, operates a professional theatre school for people of eighteen years and over.
Speakers
Theatre Day Productions’ founding members Jackie Lubeck and Jan Williams and a number of actors will be guests at the meeting. Host of the Café Mediterranée meetings, Chris Keulemans, will engage them in discussing the possibilities and problems of making theatre in Gaza, the enthusiasm of actors and the audience for their performances and the collaboration with Dutch theatre group Het Waterhuis. Clips of a documentary about Theatre Day Productions by film maker Tinus Kramer will be shown to elucidate the work of the group.
Final conference European Year
As this edition of Café Mediterranée is part of the final conference of the European Year of Intercultural Dialogue, it is held at a different location than usual. This time, we will meet at the Jaarbeurs in Utrecht. This Café Mediterranée edition is produced in collaboration with Theater Instituut Nederland (TIN).
